Cloud governance includes the processes, policies, and criteria that are involved in the planning, deployment, operation, and management of Cloud computing. Cloud governance is crucial for ensuring that the network is secure and effective by limiting a company’s risk of data theft, exposure, or data loss. There are numerous levels related to Cloud governance, and each of these areas needs to be addressed.

The service-level governance layer, also called API governance, has the role of making sure that employees who wish to gain access to the corporate Cloud, will have to submit proper user authorization; only employees who have already been given permission should be able to gain access. Next, in the data-level governance layer, the controls that are necessary to guarantee that data and data systems are only available to authorized personnel are covered. In the platform-level governance layer, the Cloud platform itself is the main topic.

Policies in this layer should focus on automation and optimize resource usage and other performance characteristics. Governance is very necessary for any situation where Cloud computing is used due to the need for high security and optimal performing conditions. While Cloud computing offers many advantages, if it not secured and governed, there could be disastrous consequences.
